This is a critical moment for co-ops and affordable housing in Ontario.
As your co-op councillor, I follow in the footsteps of David Crombie and Pam McConnell.
My goal is to convert existing empty properties and to build new co ops in Toronto Centre.
The market timing is right, I have the experience of land trusts, and running the largest co-op in Canada.
I believe we can double the number of co-ops in Ward 13 by the end of this next council term.
Housing co-ops are one of Canada’s most successful affordable housing models.
Yet nearly half of Ontario’s housing co-ops are struggling under a flawed funding formula that has remained unchanged for the past 35 years.
Without action, aging buildings will face growing repair challenges, putting long-term affordability and community stability at risk.
Regional chairs, mayors, and councillors have a critical role to play by:
- Championing a modern, sustainable funding model for municipal co-ops
- Supporting investments in essential capital repairs
- Protecting affordable housing for future generations
I pledge to work with housing partners to help build new co-op homes, tackle homelessness and create the affordable housing our communities urgently need.
